Though most opossums (also known as possums) are found in South America, the Virginia Opossum is very common in eastern United States. The Virginia Opossum is a marsupial that prefers open forests with a water source. 

​Opossums will scavenge and rarely decline a meal. This occasionally leads to opossums inside garbage cans or causing other nuisances. The opossum seldom remains in a single location for more than a few days. However, occasionally an opossum will linger near a food source. 

Though they can be beneficial in many ways, such as eating ticks and reducing tick borne illnesses, should an opossum be causing you a hassle we are happy to find it a new home.
